sorry, that interrupt you, but, opinion..

Vitorioso - Ernesto Nazareth / James Scott (4) / Joseph F. Lamb - Rags & Tangos (CD)

  1. The James Scott rags are played impeccably, as are the Joseph Lamb pieces. The range of interpretations from raucous (Scott's "Evergreen Rag") to subdued (Lamb's "Topliner") are perfect. Those who are not aware of Ernesto Nazareth can have that wrong quickly righted by the masterful tracks that represent his tango work/5(14).
  2. Rags & Tangos – Scott, Nazareth, Lamb Joshua Rifkin Rags & Tangos – Scott, Nazareth, Lamb.
  3. Rags & Tangos allows Rifkin to apply his artistry to some of the "other" composers in the so-called School of Classic Ragtime -- other than Scott Joplin that is -- namely James Scott and Joseph Lamb. Rifkin sees a sense of affinity between classic ragtime and the contemporary, but historically only the distantly related form of tango, and winds nine tangos of Brazilian composer Ernesto 8/
  4. Rifkin beautifully articulates the rags of James Scott, Joseph Lamb, and tangos of the great Brazilian composer Ernesto Nazareth. Even those who chided Rifkin's Joplin recordings as "dull" may be pleasantly surprised by the energy and pep with which Rifkin attacks some of these pieces/5(11).
  5. Born in in Neosho, Missouri. Died in , Kansas City, Missouri. Also known as "The Little Professor," James Scott was one of Kansas City's most prominent ragtime artists.
  6. Available from Amazon; Amazon also offers various recordings of Nazareth’s work. Also see CD "Rags & Tangos" of Ernesto Nazareth, James Scott & Joseph F. Lamb played by Joshua Rifkin on London D (DDD). Folio notes on Nazareth are interesting.
  7. Joseph Lamb not so; an element of poetry enters more into his scheme of things than of either Scott or Joplin himself. But it is the music of the Brazilian musician Ernesto Nazareth that seems most remote from the North American rags, a distinction made by the present record's title adding Tangos to Rags in the collective listing.
  8. Ernesto Júlio Nazareth was the most popular composer of Brazilian national music. He had a profound influence on the course of future Brazilian music, both popular and classical. Fellow countryman Heitor Villa-Lobos called him "the truest incarnation of the Brazilian musical soul.".
